The course of time will change in Egypt, tourists should be ready for this

From the end of April, time will officially change in Egypt – for the first time since 2016, the country of the Pyramids plans to switch from winter to summer time, and the hands of the clock will move forward one hour.

Tourists and locals were officially warned in the Egyptian media to be prepared for this. At the same time, the official message of the Egyptian Cabinet of Ministers stated that this is an economic measure aimed at saving electricity, that is, the reason for moving the arrows after an eight-year break was a severe financial crisis in the country.

The official statement is as follows: from the last Friday of April to the last Thursday of October, Egypt switches to daylight saving time. The clock is moved forward one hour. Currently, the time in Egypt is indicated by GMT+2 (that is, +2 hours from Greenwich Mean Time), and from April it will be adjusted to GMT+3.

At the same time, it is clarified that the last time Egypt switched to daylight saving time was in 2016 and it was subsequently canceled. The transition is being reversed again – the main reason is an additional hour of daylight. This is also the official statement of the Egyptian cabinet. It said: “The decision was taken as part of Egypt’s efforts to save energy consumption, taking into account the economic conditions in the country.”

It should be noted that as part of saving electricity, Egypt plans to make other efforts that some tourists should pay attention to. In particular, attempts are made to limit the operation of cafes and restaurants at night when street lights are switched on during the discussion. Most likely, the electricity prices will also increase, which are already “catastrophically huge”, according to ex-pats, especially about the size of local wages.
