An airport baggage handler has revealed a trick to ensure your suitcase receives VIP-level service. According to him, it is necessary, first of all, to choose the right shape and type of bag or suitcase for transporting things.
The ideal type of suitcase to receive stellar service is a rectangular rigid bag. “Luggage that VIPs must handle (when it comes to how it’s loaded) is perfectly rectangular items in a hard plastic case,” he clarified. “Because airplane luggage compartments are often asymmetrical and cramped, it can be tiring for baggage handlers to load oddly shaped suitcases,” baggage handler Joey Green explained, according to British newspaper The Sun. According to him, VIP suitcases are easy to stack, and easy to grasp, which means they can be folded quickly.
At the same time, the employee warned about the risks of damage to things in luggage if they are placed in soft bags. At the same time, no one guarantees that such vulnerable luggage will keep its contents intact during rain or wind since the luggage is transported from the terminal to the plane and back in an open vehicle.
There are also other ways to protect your luggage. Popular devices such as Apple’s AirTag or similar make it easy to track luggage if lost. In addition, it is important to pack luggage in such a way that it can be easily identified in case of loss. Head of baggage at IT company SITA, Peter Drummond, recommended adding something unusual to your suitcase: “If you have something unusual in your bag, it’s much more likely to match your lost bag claim and be returned to you quickly.” In addition, you should be careful with the information on the luggage tags. Experts advised to avoid indicating a home address on luggage and to use only basic contact details for feedback.
