The Thai government is preparing to consider a document that will lift most of the current restrictions on entry into the country for foreign tourists. The initiative is designed to significantly increase the flow of tourists to the kingdom against the backdrop of a growing state budget deficit. Bangkok Post reported on Thursday.
According to the publication, this proposal was made by the Minister of Tourism and Sports Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn. A week later, on April 22, the official will submit a corresponding resolution to the government for approval. Among the proposed measures: the complete abolition of the Test & Go tourist program and the Thailand Pass system.
“Thailand is ready to receive foreign tourists, since our health care system is functioning perfectly,” the head of the Ministry of Tourism explained.
According to him, if the document is approved by the Cabinet, then to enter the kingdom, travelers will only need to submit a certificate of vaccination against coronavirus and will not have to wait for documents to be considered for obtaining a Thailand Pass. Such measures will help increase the flow of tourists to the country up to 10 million people a year.
However, the lifting of restrictions will depend on the level of new infections in Thailand. Now the kingdom is celebrating the local New Year – Songkran. After it is held, the authorities will analyze the epidemiological situation and, based on the results, will consider the possibility of introducing the measures proposed by the Ministry of Tourism.
