Thailand plans to abolish the Thailand Pass system

Thai Minister of Tourism and Sports Fifat Ratchakitprakan considers it necessary to abolish the Thailand Pass system. This is reported by Thethaiger.com on June 6th.

According to the minister, the issue of easing the conditions for entering the Kingdom will be considered at the next meeting of Thailand’s COVID-19 Situation Management Center (CCSA). He predicts that if the scheme is canceled, the tourist flow to the country will increase to 30,000 travelers a day. In pre-Covid times, the number of daily arrivals was 100,000. The final decision will be made by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-Ocha.

At the moment, registration in the Thailand Pass system is greatly simplified. An entry permit is generated online not in a few days, but within just 1-2 hours after uploading the necessary documents to the platform, free of charge and with a minimum of requirements: a scan of a passport, a vaccination certificate, insurance with a minimum coverage of 10 thousand US dollars.

For Thai nationals, the Thailand Pass has already been canceled, and even before this statement by the Minister of Tourism, the government announced that it was aiming for its cancellation approximately from June 15th.
