The Thai government has approved a regulation on the tourist tax, which will begin to be charged to travelers arriving in the country. This was announced by the Minister of Tourism and Sports Phiphat Ratchakitprakan.
“A decision has been made to approve a regulation on a tourist tax of 150 baht for travelers arriving in Thailand through sea or land borders, and 300 baht for those arriving by air,” the minister said.
The collection will begin on June 1, 2023. Travelers who stay in Thailand for only one day will not be charged, the head of the Ministry of Tourism added.
The tourist tax is also called the resort tax. Its main goal is to accumulate funds for the needs of the tourism sector, for example, maintaining infrastructure, improving the ecology of resort areas, running repairs of hotels, and much more.
