The Thai authorities are considering the possibility of completely abolishing the Thailand Pass for foreign tourists. Apismai Srirangsan, a spokesman for the Thai COVID-19 Situation Management Center (CCSA), told reporters about this.
According to him, the organization has received many requests from representatives of the local tourism industry about the abolition of the procedure for issuing a Thai Pass. They will be considered at the next CCSA meeting on May 20.
The expert stressed that since the beginning of the year, the rules for entering the country for foreigners have been significantly simplified. In particular, from May 1, the requirement for mandatory PCR testing upon arrival for tourists vaccinated against COVID-19 has been canceled. Among the innovations is also a reduction in the amount of compulsory medical insurance for tourists from 20 to 10 thousand dollars.
In this regard, the CCSA does not exclude that the Thai Pass may indeed be an excessive measure. If the organization nevertheless cancels it at the next meeting, then the updated regulations may come into force as early as June 1.
