A 14-year-old teenager carried out a massacre in Thailand today. He walked into the popular Siam Paragon shopping center in Bangkok and began shooting customers. When he ran out of ammunition, he surrendered to police, the Bangkok Post reported.
Details of the tragedy appear one after another in the local media. In particular, we know about the death of a 30-year-old tourist from China. According to other sources, three were killed. Several shoppers were injured.
Videos appeared on social media showing panic and chaos. Some tried to leave the huge building, others sought refuge everywhere: in dark corners and restaurants. One of the tourists said that he was nearby and heard the sounds of shooting, after which an alarm sounded over the speakerphone.
The teenager who carried out the shooting of people was detained by police in a store on the third floor after he ran out of ammunition for his 9-mm Glock pistol. As it became known later, he bought the weapon through an intermediary on the Internet. The Thai minor told police that voices in his head told him to defend himself as he was about to be attacked. It turned out that his favorite pastime was video games in the style of Battle Royale, in which the fittest survive.
The incident has already caused a reaction from the country’s authorities: in particular, the head of the government, Sretta Taweesin, emphasized the need for gun control and ensuring public safety.
Siam Paragon shopping center is one of the largest in Southeast Asia. It houses dozens of shops with luxury brands that many tourists love to visit.
