Sweden is tired of being confused with Switzerland and has decided to end this confusion once and for all. National tourism organization Visit Sweden has decided to launch an advertising campaign to make a clear distinction between the two countries.
Every year, approximately 85,000 people on Google wonder whether countries like Sweden and Switzerland are different. A study conducted by Visit Sweden found that half of respondents were not entirely sure whether there was any difference between the two. And recently, Sweden showed a creative video in which they emphasized aspects that, in their opinion, will attract travelers.
“We’ll be able to communicate about things like sandbanks, rooftops, and silence. Meanwhile, Switzerland will focus on banks, mountain peaks, and loud noises like yodeling. Switzerland will keep LSD (because you invented it), and Sweden will keep the aurora.” – says the campaign.
The advertisement makes a comparison: supposedly the Swedes, like all lucky people, prefer “not to watch watches,” but Switzerland is focused on creating luxury timepieces one after another.
Visit Sweden says the country doesn’t mind being confused with Switzerland from time to time. However, if people for many years cannot distinguish between the two countries, then maybe they should get help in this matter, the Swedes suggested.
According to foreign media, Schweiz Tourismus said that they are glad to see the humor with which tourism advertising can be made.
“Switzerland is quite unmistakably recognizable on the tourism market. Guests from abroad will never confuse Switzerland with any other tourist destinations, no matter how similar their names may be,” they noted.
