A strong earthquake hit eastern Turkey today, the Emergency and Emergency Management Service reported, citing the Associated Press.
An earthquake of magnitude 5.2 struck the town of Pyuturg in Malatya district at 17:02 local time, the Turkish Emergency Service (AFAD) said. The depth of the earthquake was 6.7 kilometers.
AFAD said there were no reports of injuries or major damage.
“So far we have not received any negative signals. Our teams continue to conduct on-the-spot checks,” Malatya Governor Ayden Barouch told the Anatolian state agency.
Environment and Urbanization Minister Murat Kurum said on Twitter that the Turkish government is closely monitoring the situation.
Earlier, the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center reported an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.6 and a depth of 2 kilometers, and subsequently corrected the magnitude of 5 and the depth of 7 kilometers.
Turkey is located on major fault lines and earthquakes are frequent here.
