The mayor’s office of the Spanish city of Cabezon de la Sal has banned tourists from hugging trees in the local redwood forest. Everything to preserve perennial plants.
Tourists who come to hug the trees destroy their bark and trample their roots. To cope with the problem, city officials have developed a plan.
The first stage is already being implemented. During the second, new paths will be created in the forest that will not allow tourists to get closer to the trees. They are also considering introducing an entrance fee.
About 200,000 tourists come to Cabezon de la Sal every year. The forest that is located there is a natural monument. It was created back in the 1940s, artificially (sequoias grow naturally only in North America).
