Bagus Pemayun, head of the Bali Tjokorda Provincial Tourism Agency, explained whether tourists should be afraid of being punished for having sex outside of marriage in Bali, DIP reports citing Cna.com.
The official said hotel staff in Bali would not require tourists to have a marriage certificate upon check-in and urged travelers not to worry about it.
“When people come to the hotel, they come to rest. They will be treated the same as now,” he said.
Meanwhile, experts believe that new amendments to the Indonesian penal code could not only prevent foreigners from coming to the country but also damage its reputation and deprive it of vital tourism revenue.
Earlier, Indonesian lawmakers approved changes to the country’s criminal code, introducing a sweeping and controversial legal reform. Members of the House of Representatives approved the bill with the support of all major parties, despite criticism from the public.
