If the airline industry does not start a “mass recruitment company”, then next summer tourists will again face nightmares of air chaos. And so far, the year of flight disruptions across Europe continues.
“Air traffic control delays in Europe are the worst in the history of air travel,” said Ryanair chief executive Eddie Wilson. At the same time, he noted that there is still 10-15% less air traffic in Europe than in “pre-war” times.
The expert cited the following figures: in the last week of July, there were on average about 30,700 flights per day in the European airspace. Their total latency was 117,624 minutes each day. At the same time, less than a third of the delays were due to the weather. The rest is a problem with airport capacity and staff shortages.
“This is a record for the number of delays,” added the head of the European low-cost carrier and stunned tourists with a sad forecast. “There is a possibility that this will continue into next summer if the airlines do not join forces now. So far, Europe has 10-15% less traffic compared to 2019, but there is no way we can get into a steady rhythm and we have the worst delays ever.” He went on to say that all carriers and airports need to start a “massive recruitment drive”.
