The Russian Foreign Ministry said yesterday that it had summoned the Norwegian ambassador to explain the politically motivated detention of Russian citizens for the alleged illegal use of drones, Reuters reported concerning BTA.
“It was stated that the verdicts against Russian citizens were politically motivated and had nothing to do with the principles of fair and impartial justice” (ed. seriously?), the ministry said in a statement.
Several Russian citizens have been arrested by Norwegian authorities for flying drones near the Arctic border between the two countries or taking photos of classified objects as Norway tightens security measures following suspected sabotage against the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines that run under the Baltic Sea.
