The Maldives has abolished quarantine for tourists since June 2020. Since then, the rules of entry have changed many times. In this article, we have prepared the current conditions for entry into the Maldives (this information is updated with the news).
Do I need a visa to the Maldives
You do not need a visa to the Maldives. Citizens of Ukraine are allowed to stay in the country for up to 90 days – without a visa. To do this, you must have a passport valid for at least one month from the date of entry. The passport must be signed by the owner.
Children of all ages must also have a passport.
Rules of entry into the Maldives for Ukrainians
In addition to a passport for a trip to the Maldives you will need:
- Certificate with a negative PCR test for coronavirus in English. Even vaccinated is needed! The smear must be submitted no earlier than 96 hours before boarding the flight (changes are effective from July 27, 2021).
- For those who fly with a transfer and stay at the transit airport for more than a day, another test will be required.
- Children under the age of one do not need to take the test.
- An online health declaration must be made for each holidaymaker 24 hours before arrival. The declaration should contain information about the PCR test. As a result, you will be issued an individual QR-code, which will need to be displayed when passing the border control in print or from a mobile device. Children under one year of age do not fill out the declaration.
- You must have printed hotel vouchers and return tickets in hard copy.
Don’t forget the green tax ($ 6 per person per night, even for babies). If you are traveling on a tour, this tax will most likely be included in the price. Check before booking.
At the airport upon arrival, if a tourist detects signs of SARS (fever) may be asked to take an additional paid PCR test. And all his companions – family or friends with whom he flew, must also pass the test.
Airport staff may also require a free test from anyone who arrives without signs of illness. In case of detection of coronavirus in patients – quarantine.
After passing the control you need to find a rack for your hotel. Transfers are only allowed if booked through your hotel or tour operator.
Current coronavirus restrictions
At the airport and other public places, wear a mask, treat your hands with antiseptic and keep your distance. Restaurants and shops are open to the public.
Tourists with SARS symptoms are not allowed on excursions, spa treatments, diving and other organized entertainment.
There are special requirements for those who are going to live on different islands during the holidays. Two days before moving to another island, you should send a request to the e-mail of the Ministry of Tourism splitstays@tourism.gov.mv. Written permission or refusal will be sent in response.
Leaving the Maldives
To leave the Maldives, you must fill out an online Maldives Migration Health Questionnaire one day before departure. The questionnaire is made for each person. As a result, you will be given a QR code to print or save on your mobile device. This code will need to be shown at the passport control.
