Qatar invests $29.7 billion in Egypt to build a new luxury Mediterranean mega-resort Alam El-Roum

Egypt has announced one of the largest tourism development projects in its history. Qatari Diar, a subsidiary of Qatar Investment Authority, will invest $29.7 billion into transforming a 20-million-m² area on the Mediterranean coast into a year-round luxury destination.

The agreement signed with Egypt’s New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA) includes hotels, golf courses, marinas, residential areas, and premium resorts.

Qatari Diar will pay $3.5 billion in cash for the land and contribute $26.2 billion in development value.

The first phase includes five-star hotels, beach resorts, luxury residences and golf courses, with over 4,500 rooms planned. International brands expected: Hilton, Four Seasons, InterContinental and potentially Ritz-Carlton.

The project is set to create over 250,000 jobs, supporting Egypt’s goal to welcome 17.5–18 million tourists by 2025.

Qatar Airways, Emirates, Etihad Airways and EgyptAir will increase flights to Cairo and Alexandria to meet rising travel demand.

The master plan includes private jet access, helicopter transfers, a state-of-the-art marina and eco-friendly infrastructure focused on renewable energy and marine protection.
