The original offer in the business class menu was actively discussed by users of the Reddit social network. According to a photo submitted by user Conrad Ru, who was flying business class on China Eastern Airlines, they were offered “imported dog food” among other snacks on the in-flight menu. It also included such things as shark fins, beef, and shrimp.
“What would that mean?” – the blogger was surprised. Commenters, in addition to the obvious answer that this is a wrong translation, quickly “inundated” this post with hundreds of their versions. “It’s just that the airline allows accommodation with pets”, “They hint that they treat you like a dog, not like a person”, and “Apparently, economy class passengers get only domestic dog food”, commented the commentators. One noted: “If it’s business class, I expect my imported dog food to be 96% air-dried organic beef.”
Some came to the defense of China Eastern, reporting that “the flight crew was simply amazing, incredibly friendly and helpful” and “the food was also very tasty.” Then the commentator added that it is sad to see such mistakes: “After all, in China they have many experts who could read these mistakes.”
What it was about remained unclear. Company representatives did not come to comment.
