Passengers are indignant: a famous airline is fined for too heavy manual luggage

In the last months, the FINNAIR airline has tightened the weight of the hand luggage, writes Helsingin Sanomat.

In early June, Finnair tightened the rules for the transportation of baggage and introduced a new budget type of Superbeck tickets for intra-European flights.

According to Finnair, for several months now, special attention has been paid to compliance with the rules of transportation of manual luggage.

“Finnair, of course, had previously checked manual luggage, but in recent months this has been done more intensively. Baggage carried into the salon must comply with the requirements for size and weight, ”said Palina Palttal, representative of the FINNAIR communications department, Helsingin Sanomat.

According to Finnair customers, the airline’s behavior is surprising. So, one tourist wrote on Thursday on social networks that Finnair measures and weighs manual luggage directly at the exit to the landing.

“For note, Finnair charges 60 euros if the manual treasury is too large/heavy,” she wrote.

“In my case, my hand luggage was simply lifted manually to check the weight. Then they told me that my laptop bag was too heavy. A little amazing, because the weight of the bag was not measured before and was not evaluated at the exit for landing,” the tourist wrote.

According to Helsingin Sanomat, in the summer, Finnair conducted a selective check, calling the names of passengers, whose hand luggage they wanted to check before landing on the plane. One passenger considered the situation intense.

According to the representative of Finnair, the purpose of the control weighing and measurement of manual luggage is to ensure that the aircraft rushes into the air in time.

“On some flights, passengers may have more baggage than usual, and it may not fit in the salon. This affects the aircraft departure and can cause delays,” explained the representative of the Finnair communications department Pauline Palttal.

In recent years, the amount of baggage in the cabin has increased, as the popularity of cheaper tickets has increased.
