A Tibet Airlines passenger jet skidded off the runway during takeoff and caught fire at an airport in Chongqing, western China.
According to state television CCTV, the incident took place at Jiangbei International Airport. The aircraft operated flight TV9833 Chongqing – Nyingchi.
It is specified that there were 113 passengers and nine crew members on board. 40 people were injured and taken to the hospital.
Passenger and cargo traffic at the airport returned to normal after firefighters extinguished the fire. The causes of the accident are being investigated.
This is the second major aviation accident in China since the beginning of the year. Boeing of China Eastern airline, operating flight MU5735 from Kunming to Guangzhou, crashed on March 21 in Teng County, Wuzhou City in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in southern China.
There were 132 people on board, including 123 passengers and nine crew members, all of whom were declared dead.
