According to Bloomberg, treasures will be recovered from the sunken Spanish galleon San Jose in Colombia. This will happen no later than 2026.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro demanded to speed up work to find the San Jose cargo and proposed creating a joint venture for this or hiring a private company that could solve this problem.
It is known that the Spanish galleon San Jose, returning to Europe with silver from Bolivian mines, sank off the coast of Colombia in 1708. Experts estimate the value of its cargo at $20 billion. This is one of the largest treasures in history.
In 1981, the American company Glocca Morra managed to find the shipwreck, but Colombian authorities did not allow the jewelry to be recovered. In 2015, Colombia announced that the wreckage of the ship had been found in another place, but Glocca Morra considers this a hoax and has already gone to court, where they are seeking the country to pay them $10 billion, that is, half the estimated value of the treasure.
