The longest pedestrian and bicycle tunnel in the world is now in Bergen, Norway. It began to be built back in 2019, completed just now.
The tunnel was decided to be made because of the expansion of the tram line in the city. The authorities also hope that it will reduce traffic in the city and reduce emissions. The tunnel stretches for three kilometers and connects two residential areas. You can walk it in 40 minutes, and ride a bike in 10.
There are no windows and little sunlight, but art installations and lamps are everywhere. There are rest stops. Additionally – surveillance cameras and emergency phones.
The tunnel operates daily from 5:30 to 23:30.
