Last Saturday, new temperature records were set in several Turkish cities.
According to the General Department of Meteorology of Turkey, by 15:00 on Saturday, November 4, the air in Bursa had warmed up to 31.7 °C. This was the absolute record for November since 1928.
In Istanbul on the same day, the thermometer rose to +26.7 °C – this figure almost equaled the record of November 1950, when it was +27 °C.
In Izmir, the heat also set a new record for 64 years of meteorological observations: there the air warmed up to +30.2 °C, and in the suburbs even up to 32 °C. Moreover, the average temperature in November in the city is usually around +14 °C.
The heat in Turkey is accompanied by a southerly wind, the speed of which reaches 9–10 m/s. In Canakkale, because of this, a forest fire raged against the backdrop of 30-degree heat.
