In the coming summer season, Italy will increase by 35%, but the total number of tourists will still be less than in the “reference” times by about a third. The distribution of tourists by region will change.
According to the research center of the Demoskopika Institute of Tourism, this season Italy can expect more than 92 million tourists. The increase compared to last year will be 35%. However, these figures will still remain below pre-pandemic figures: compared to 2019, the number of tourists arriving in Italy this year will be 29.6% less. It should be noted that Italy is present in European preferences, but did not make it to the forefront.

This will change the distribution of tourists by region. The Piedmont region is expected to receive the largest number of tourists – 4.3 million. Trentino-South Tyrol will be in second place and Campania in third. The winners are mostly “European” regions, which are easy to reach for tourists from EU countries, or those who are popular with them.
Revenues and expenses will also increase, but not that impressively. By the end of 2022, Italy is expected to earn more than 26 billion euros in tourism. This means an increase of 11.8% compared to 2021.
