The scandal and sharp criticism from the hotel staff were caused by a joke of a blogger on TikTok who left the hotel, leaving the staff with a “sinister surprise”. The 18-year-old blogger Gregers Federspiel from Denmark filmed his actions – how he creates mock mummies of corpses from bedclothes – and probably did not expect the storm of indignation that would fall on him. The tourist was told that his “joke” would not only cause panic in the hotel but could also cause the police to be called.
The video has garnered 41.6 million views, showing him transforming the sheets in his hotel room into the sinister shape of a corpse on a bed. A human figure is created from pillows, blankets, and sheets, after which the humorist wrapped a telephone wire around the space where the neck would be. TikTok and his roommate then turned off the lights and left the room, leaving the room looking like two dead bodies were hidden under the sheets. He commented on the clip: “As we leave the hotel…”
Not many recognized the video as funny – it quickly got into the professional environment and the blogger was bombarded with comments from outraged hotel employees. “You are creating more work for us and raising panic among staff and guests. It’s not funny,” they wrote. Someone tried to appeal to the blogger’s feelings, saying that such a picture is a maid’s worst nightmare.
Others very rudely warned the humorist. “In such cases, we immediately call the police. You will probably be found out, detained, and fined,” they commented to the joker.
