Tourists going to Spanish resorts, which are so popular with vacationers from all over the world, have been warned about a very serious threat to their health. Kovid is irrelevant this time: tourists were intimidated by the invasion of the resorts of the kingdom of black flies, which do not bite, but saw the skin. The risk of “bite” of such flies is much higher than from other insects – there are cases of hospitalization of tourists for several months.
Dangerous insects have already been found in Andalusia, Aragon, Catalonia, Madrid, Murcia and Valencia – that is, in those provinces that are visited by tourists. According to biologists, the number of these terrible flies is constantly growing and will soon become “very close to becoming a serious health problem in Spain.”
The fact is that their bites have serious consequences. The National Association of Environmental Protection Companies warns of the dangers of tourists. Its CEO, Jorge Galvan, said: “The virulence of black fly bites is much higher than that of other insects. The main problem is that it does not sting, but bites, making an incision in the skin, as if sawing it, forming a significant wound. All this can lead to very disturbing infections and allergic reactions, which in some cases require long-term hospitalization.
In addition, the expert added, the fly can transmit serious diseases such as onchocerciasis, which can cause blindness. And this is a serious threat: according to the World Health Organization, approximately 270,000 people worldwide have been blinded by the disease.
“Their saliva is what usually causes severe allergy symptoms and severe pain in the bite area. As a result, in any case, after the bite there is a scar a few centimeters, which usually even bleeds, accompanied by severe edema, which can last up to a month, “- said the Spanish biologist. He advised tourists, if this happens to them, in any case not to comb the wound – it can lead to infection – and seek medical attention immediately.
