According to Travel Weekly, Heathrow Airport in London (UK) until September 11 introduces a limit on the number of daily departing passengers – up to 100,000 people.
The air harbor authorities said that Heathrow is working at the limit of its capabilities. And 100,000 passengers is the maximum that airlines, baggage handling services, and the airport can handle daily.
Management said that that limit has been regularly exceeded in recent weeks, resulting in “an unacceptable level of service” — flight delays, baggage claim issues, and long queues.
The airport is now asking airlines to stop selling tickets departing from Heathrow until the end of the summer season.
As The Independent clarifies, air carriers must choose between sending flights with unsold seats or canceling flights and transferring passengers to alternative flights.
