Such an announcement recently appeared on the doors of a grocery store in the historic part of the city.
An old grocer in the center of Barcelona has promised to fine visitors who enter the premises but do not buy anything. We are talking about the deli Queviures Múrria, which opened in 1898 and became one of the attractions of the Spanish city. True, most tourists are not at all interested in wine and elite snacks for it, but in antique clocks and mahogany furniture. Someone strives to simply photograph this situation, while others want to take a selfie in the surroundings of a 19th-century butcher shop, and even with antique furniture.
The store owners posted a sign on the door with this rather polite text: “Just come in and see – five euros per person. Thank you”. Shortly thereafter, it was reported on the news that this was just a joke, and manager Tony Merino specifically clarified that no one was going to be fined. According to him, the sign was designed to at least slightly reduce the flow of visitors.
There is no reliable information on the Internet that someone was fined. It is difficult to imagine what exactly the store owners would refer to, demanding a 5-euro bill from a tourist: there are no laws that would prohibit entering stores anywhere in the world, even in Barcelona suffering from overtourism.
