“A sun-drenched paradise with stunning beaches will pay foreigners 30,000 euros to move there,” the Italian region of Calabria, located in the south of the country, advertised in Dailystar. New residents are offered 30 thousand euros for relocation, although not without some conditions.
According to the publication, the region “boasts stunning rugged mountains, picturesque villages, and a stunning coastline full of social media-worthy golden sand beaches, making the idea of moving there quite tempting.”
One big “but” is that they are trying to attract residents to local small villages to help develop the local economy. It is for this reason that the authorities introduced a program aimed at attracting new residents, and the scheme was launched back in July 2021.
Of course, there are a lot of restrictions for those who want to. First, they must be under 40 years of age and be willing to move within 90 days. Moreover, simply relaxing or working remotely at the expense of the state will not work – immigrants must commit themselves to either starting a new business in the area or taking one of the vacancies that need to be filled.
“The reason is simple: the whole point of the proposal is to help stimulate the local economy in villages with a population of 2,000 people or less,” the publication clarifies.
At the same time, no one will immediately pay 30 thousand euros to the displaced people. They promise to transfer the amount in monthly payments of about 2.5 thousand euros over three years.
“But it might be a tempting deal if you’re looking for a change of scenery,” the publication adds.
