Italy Turns White: First Major Snowfall Hits the North

Потужні снігопади охопили Ломбардію, Альпи, Лігурію та Тоскану; синоптики попереджають про сильний вітер, ожеледицю та ризик лавин

Winter has officially arrived in Italy. Several regions woke up to significant snowfall today, according to ANSA, with the heaviest snowfall hitting the Alpine areas of Lombardy, Trentino-Alto Adige, and Veneto.

Light snowflakes also fell in Milan, Bergamo, and across the hills of Tuscany and Liguria. In the higher Alpine zones, snow depth has already reached 40–70 cm, prompting local authorities to deploy snowplows and restrict heavy traffic on mountain passes.

Weather alerts highlight:

  • winds up to 80–100 km/h,

  • icy conditions on roads,

  • increased avalanche danger,

  • more snow and rain expected within the next 48 hours.

Central and southern Italy remain milder for now, but meteorologists predict a cold front will arrive soon.

The early snowfall is welcome news for Italy’s top ski resorts — including Courmayeur, Cervinia, Livigno, and Madonna di Campiglio — many of which may open their slopes earlier than planned, possibly by late November.
