From January 1, 2023, a tax on accommodation in hotels and other accommodation facilities will begin to apply in Turkey. It will amount to 2% of the services provided by the hotel, which include: accommodation itself, meals, provision of a swimming pool, animation, spa treatments, etc. If a tourist visits a thermal hotel but does not spend the night on its territory, then he will be exempted from the tax.
So far, Turkey has not explained how vacationers will pay the fee. Experts believe that for organized tourists the amount of tax will be included in the cost of the tour, while independent tourists will have to pay money to the reception.
The hotel business in Turkey is against the new fee, so its implementation may be postponed to a later date.
