Israel’s main airport, Ben Gurion, will go digital in 2023.
Israel Airports Authority (IAA) officials have announced that Ben Gurion Airport, located in the city of Lod, about 14.5 kilometers from Tel Aviv, will go digital in 2023.
As airports around the world are overwhelmed, traveler demand is unsatisfied and there is a shortage of staff, the IAA has decided that going digital will reduce long queues at check-in and screening.
Ben Gurion is currently one of the busiest airports in the Middle East. The IAA estimates that 18 million passengers will pass through the airport in 2022, rising to 24 million next year. The IAA says that due to the planned digitization process, the time for passengers checking in online and in person will be reduced.
The IAA added that passengers will be able to weigh their suitcases at the new kiosks, pay for excess weight as needed to comply with various airline procedures, and print baggage tags and stickers. The sticker on the suitcase will be scanned next to the conveyor belts, and from there the luggage will go to the cargo hold of the aircraft.
