Here’s a list of the biggest travel disappointments in the world, according to USA Today, based on an analysis of 23.2 million travel reviews on Google. The list focuses on American tourist sites and topped it off with the Four Corners Monument at the junction of the states of Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah. This place is probably unfamiliar to tourists from other countries.
The selection of properties was based on simple criteria: the frequency with which the terms “tourist trap”, “overrated” and “expensive” were mentioned in the reviews. According to these criteria, the attractions that caused the greatest disappointment among visitors were selected.
Among the notable properties that made it into the top 5 of both the most expensive and the most disappointing places is the Blue Lagoon in Iceland. Tourists claim that the prices for this facility are high – starting from $67 per person, and prices double during peak hours, while there are not so many interesting experiences. In Southeast Asia, Penang Hill in Malaysia has a similar reputation.
Other objects that have disappointed tourists include the Little Mermaid sculpture in Copenhagen and the Manneken Pis statue in Brussels, the Arashiyama bamboo forest in Japan, and even the Hollywood Walk of Fame in California. Also criticized were the Dancing House in Prague and the Spanish Steps in Rome. Tourists believe that their popularity is not always justified.
