The Ministry of Tourism of India announced the decision to close seven overseas offices that are engaged in promotional activities. Hour “X” is scheduled for March 31 next year.
An office memorandum issued by the country’s Deputy Secretary of State Rajesh Kumar reads: “According to the decision of the government, the Ministry of Tourism is closing all overseas tourism offices of India until March 31, 2023.” All employees of Indian Tourist Offices Overseas are requested to “take the necessary action pursuant to this decision and submit a report on the action taken”.
If we talk about the reasons, then the decision of the authorities looks logical. The government has considered that the cost of operating overseas offices is not offset by the number of additional tourists that the Indian tourism sector receives from these countries. In the modern world, the digital environment on the one hand and the existing embassies on the other will be an adequate alternative without additional costs.
