The impact of economic changes in Turkey has also spread to tourists, radically changing their gastronomic preferences. High prices in restaurants forced them to abandon high-end establishments in favor of street food.
According to information received from Turizm Guncel, residents, who have recently complained about high inflation rates, have revised their approach to eating due to rising food prices in the country and tourists.
Now street food is a cheaper and forcedly tasty alternative. It was reported that the demand for fish and bread dishes was particularly high among travelers who chose street food. For example, a Turkish fish and bakery operator noted that 90 percent of its customers are now foreign tourists, while local travelers have stopped coming because of high prices.
Expats also talk about high prices in Turkish restaurants. This is what one of the tourists said about the situation in Antalya: the cost of meals in gastronomic establishments has increased sharply. It was clarified that this winter, for an amount comparable to trips to restaurants, you can spend two days in a five-star all-inclusive hotel with swimming pools, hammams, saunas, and unlimited alcohol.
