In Turkey, tourists are hiding in hotels because of the intense heat, the beaches are almost empty

Tourists’ interest in the beaches of the main resort province in southern Turkey has fallen: rest in Antalya has turned into torment. At the same time, travelers hide in hotels because of the huge fin, which recently scared them terribly, and from the wild heat that has settled in the region. Temperatures in the province reached a record high of +43.5 °C, Turkish NTV reported.

The real threat lies in the suffocating heat that has enveloped the region, tourists complained. The air temperature exceeding +40 °C does not allow them to comfortably enjoy beach activities, they want to hide in cool hotel rooms, and not sunbathe on the beaches.

It was clarified that the heat level reached its peak on July 14, when thermometers showed +42 °C in the center of Antalya and even higher in Manavgat – there it was + 43.9 °C. These abnormally high rates continued in the following days. For example, at noon on July 15, the highest air temperature was +43.5 °C in the center of Antalya and over +44 °C in Manavgat.

Exhausting temperatures have scared beachgoers away from the coast, so the Mediterranean coast has become empty. The publication cited the popular Konyaalti as an example, which is usually a busy holiday destination for tourists, but not last weekend and July 17 and 18. However, those who still decide to go ashore prefer to go into the sea and not go to the beach: at present, the water temperature is a pleasant +26 °C. There are no crowds of tourists on the main streets of the city either. For the most part, tourists are waiting for anomalous values.

What is the forecast? Meteorologists do not predict temperature relief until the end of this week – it will be very hot in the city and the province. The temperature will remain around +40 °C.

Recall that the Turkish Riviera was dominated by the severe anticyclone “Cerberus”, which penetrated from the ruthless Sahara desert. Waves of heat, like a blazing fire, are now engulfing Europe – both in Turkey and in European countries, most vacationers were not ready for such extreme heat. The hellish heat that has covered the region has led to the fact that iconic attractions have begun to close in many countries. After a tourist fainted outside Italy’s Colosseum in “only” 36 °C heat, some countries have decided to close famous museums for a “preventive” siesta.
