They called to limit the number of tourists in an extremely popular region of Turkey. As reported by the Turkish mass media, former professional guide, and professor of history İlber Ortayly called on the Turkish authorities to apply restrictions to protect the most popular historical monuments among tourists from excessive visits. It is primarily about Cappadocia.
“Thousands of people visit Cappadocia today. Frankly speaking, I am not very happy about this,” the expert said. He emphasized that restrictions on visits are introduced in all popular museums – this applies to the application of quotas in all major museums in Florence, including the Uffizi, the Vatican Museums, etc.
According to him, the Goreme Valley, which is famous for its rare natural rocks as well as underground temples, is also very sensitive to destruction and should fall under such a strict quota. He emphasized that at least restrictions should be imposed on visiting the famous temples of the valley.
We will remind you that Forbes recently named the most anti-tourist destinations in the EU for the summer of 2023, where travelers may face various restrictions. In different countries, the restrictive measures work differently, but in general, it refers to the introduction of a limited time for visits to certain attractions, or a limit on the number of places available to tourists.
The list is long – it includes cities popular with tourists in Italy and Austria, Spanish Majorca, as well as Barcelona and other popular cities. Read details at this link.
