To deal with the Russians who “ran in” and illegally rent out houses in the resorts to their compatriots, called in Turkey. Almost all resorts are in the “risk zone” – as the Turkish publication Press Secretary assures, Russians bought and rented houses in Antalya and settled in coastal areas of the city, such as Konyaalti, Lara, Kemer, and Alanya, after receiving a residence permit. At the same time, it is not enough that real estate prices have increased because of them, they are actively renting out their houses to compatriots, which they profit from and “break the business” of hotels.
As the head of the Chamber of Commerce, the Union of Chambers of Merchants and Artisans of Antalya (AESOB) Adlihan Dere stated, the “intruders” are conducting their “subversive activities” like this. “Russians can get citizenship in exchange for an investment of 250,000 dollars. As a result, houses that would not normally cost $100,000 increased to $250,000 and prices skyrocketed. As a result, residents of Antalya, and civil servants or private sector workers working in Antalya, no longer have the opportunity to buy a house,” he complained.
At the same time, after the purchase, the real estate also begins to work for those who “found” it, renting it out both daily and monthly. “They make dishonest money by renting out the house they bought to unofficially get citizenship,” said a Turkish expert. As a result, a serious difference is already noticeable between the number of tourists entering Antalya from the airport and the number of tourists staying in hotels. Moreover, according to the Turkish expert, Russians often rent out their houses for 12 months a year and earn serious money.
“Houses bought and rented by foreigners must be registered. And they should be investigated for illegal business,” added Mr. Dere. However, according to him, “in regions where Russians are concentrated, even heads of precincts and officials are Russians” and it is not so easy to do this.
We will remind, however, that not only Russians are engaged in this business. “While we thought that we would now make money from them, they started making money themselves,” – this is how outraged Turkish hoteliers commented on the situation with foreigners renting out their houses in Turkey to other tourists at another resort. We are talking about the resort of Bursa, which is popular with tourists from Arab countries.
Arab vacationers followed the example of Russian and English tourists. “It has become a common practice: those who come to Turkey as tourists and buy a house there, then turn it into a commercial activity and become competitors to hotels. The practice of renting out houses bought by foreigners is now practiced in Bursa, which is one of the most popular destinations for tourists from Arab countries,” Turkish experts say.
