A US woman, who chose not to reveal her name, almost lost her sight after watching the solar eclipse without protective glasses.
In 2017, she seriously injured her eyes after staring at the Sun for 15 seconds during an eclipse. After this, she began to have vision problems, which progressed every year. She could not make out the words written on the phone screen and had difficulty reading paper books.
“I watched a solar eclipse six and a half years ago. I didn’t pay attention to the fact that I didn’t have sunglasses, deciding that nothing bad would happen. I squinted and looked at the Sun with my right eye for about 15 seconds,” the victim said.
Optometrists diagnosed a serious disorder in the retina that could lead to permanent loss of central vision.
