According to The Times, in the Italian city of Portofino, local authorities have banned tourists from stopping for photos in several popular places, for example, in the square by the bay.
So, tourists will not be allowed to accumulate and linger in the so-called “red zones”, thereby interfering with the movement of transport and emergency services. The innovation appeared in connection with the influx of tourists on the eve of Catholic Easter.
Restrictions apply from 10:30 to 18:00, they will last until at least October 15.
As the mayor of Portofino said, the new rules are designed to “regulate flows to improve accessibility, as well as for security reasons.”
Slow tourists who violate the new rules will be fined up to 275 euros.
The publication clarifies that about 500 people permanently live in Portofino, while almost 7,000 tourists visited the city on Catholic Easter alone.
