Authorities in Spain’s five autonomous regions are investigating attacks on young women who say they were under the influence of drugs at beach parties and discos. Samples were taken from the victims, some of which confirmed the presence of the drug, others are still being tested, BNR reports.
At least 40 complaints have been filed by young women since July 11. They claim that during a disco or a party on the beach, a narcotic substance was introduced to them. Security forces and police in tourist areas stepped up heightened security measures, and nightclub owners were warned to increase security measures. The problem has existed since the beginning of the year, but now, during the active tourist season, cases have increased.
In Catalonia alone, 17 complaints filed in one week are being investigated, mostly in Lloret de Mar (Girona), Blanes and Barcelona. Another 12 cases are under investigation in the Basque Country, followed by Andalusia, Cantabria, and Valencia. All applications are submitted by women, there is only one man. Most of them are minors and say that they even felt the moment of the injection, but because of the many people around, they did not understand who injected them.
According to them, they then experienced “sudden dizziness, disorientation, fatigue, and drowsiness.”
Some of them were taken out by friends, and others were helped by restaurant security, but there were also cases of mistreatment. Those who were taken to the hospital were examined, and intoxicants were found in the blood of some of them.
According to doctors, if the sample is taken late, it will be difficult to prove the presence of the drug. To prevent sexual assaults on young girls and boys, police units have stepped up security at beaches and nightclubs, and victims are organizing social media calls to boycott nightclubs.
