According to Turkish media, a criminal group has been arrested in Istanbul, using a police uniform, robbed foreign tourists.
The criminals operated in the Fatih area, a historical center popular with tourists. Dressed in police uniforms, they approached tourists and asked to show documents for verification.
While one “police officer” was checking passports, another was quietly pulling wallets out of the guests’ pockets and bags.
The deception was revealed after complaints from tourists; in addition, one such incident was caught on CCTV cameras.
After this, the real police quickly established the identities of the criminals: they turned out to be previously convicted Iranian citizens who were soon arrested.
