In Iceland, lava from an erupting volcano has reached residential buildings.

On the Reykjanes Peninsula (Iceland), a lava flow resulting from the eruption of the Fagradalsfjall volcano reached houses in the town of Grindavik.

As stated by the Icelandic Meteorological Center, the houses of local residents caught fire and people were urgently evacuated from the city.

The eruption of the volcano, located in the southwest of the country, began yesterday. A state of emergency has been declared in the region.

There are 33 active volcanic systems in Iceland. Since 2021, there have been four eruptions on the Reykjanes Peninsula.
