In China, a Japanese tourist died shortly after jumping from one of the world’s highest bungee jumps. This was reported by the Metro publication.
A 56-year-old man who jumped from the 233-meter platform of the Macau Tower last Sunday complained of shortness of breath and fainted immediately after the extreme jump. When the medics arrived at the scene of the emergency, he was no longer breathing, and the doctors did not find any external injuries on the man.
The incident took place on a platform owned by Skypark by AJ Hackett, an organization specializing in various extreme activities including bungee jumping in various destinations including France, Singapore, and Australia. Tourists pay more than $400 for the opportunity to jump from a bungee jump from the platform of the Macau Skypark tower, built in 1998, similar to the Skytower in Oakland.
“During yesterday’s (December 3) incident, the tourist followed all safety requirements before taking part in the bungee jumping attraction. When our staff received a message that he was not feeling well after landing, they immediately administered first aid and called the authorities for help. The company cooperates with the relevant state agencies,” the company’s official statement read.
Macao Tower is one of the most popular places for bungee jumping among thrill seekers. The platform of the tower is the second highest in the world, second only to the trestle of the Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge, also located in China. According to the company, more than 4 million jumps have been made during more than 30 years of Skypark’s operation – this is how the organizer emphasized its “ideal safety index”. The organization’s website states that Skypark works to prevent accidents and ill-health through effective risk management and hazard communication. It was clarified that clients should inform the staff of any existing medical conditions. These include heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, or previous surgeries. The investigation of the incident continues.
