A foreign tourist who wanted to taste “too big a portion” in the hotel restaurant became the object of heated disputes on the Internet. He confessed his love for breakfast on Reddit.
The story goes like this: A man was staying at a hotel with his children when an incident occurred one morning at the breakfast buffet. The vacationer ordered waffles, which took some time to prepare, and then immediately asked for a second portion, despite the line.
Here’s an excerpt from his post: “Last month I was staying at a hotel in Chicago with my kids and the place offered free breakfast for guests. They had one waffle maker that made one waffle at a time. It was in a small room on the 6th floor where there were about 20 or more people. I was hungry but waited patiently in line because each waffle cycle takes three minutes. A young woman was working, and as soon as she took out her waffle, I stepped forward. She poured batter for a second waffle, I think for another guest. I asked for another waffle, but she said the restaurant only gives out one at a time.”
As it turned out, if the man wanted a second waffle, he had to stand at the end of the line and meekly wait until he was back at the counter. This greatly infuriated the traveler. Some people only partially agreed with him. One of them wrote a supportive comment: “Good manners in this situation would be to make one waffle and then go back for another if necessary, starting again from the end of the queue. That way, everyone gets their first waffle as soon as possible.” Another agreed: “It’s reckless to hold up the queue. He could just get back in line after she stopped making waffles.”
Nevertheless, most people lashed out at the tourist with judgmental phrases, the general message of which was that the tourist was wrong in his selfish desire to eat. “I understand you were upset, but this is passive-aggressive, petty, dramatic behavior that will do nothing to help the situation,” “The person in front of you had more restraint and patience than I do,” “I would tell you, where you can stuff your waffles. You need to get a hold of yourself,” they answered.
