The flight attendant, who serves tourists on board the plane, knows a lot about each of them. Such amazing and at the same time frightening information was revealed by one of them on the Reddit social network.
It turns out that some airlines provide flight attendants with all sorts of information about passengers, stored on portable devices on each flight. Everything is available to the elderly staff: from medical details to drinks. The flight attendants read the information from the tablets they use on board their airline flights.
We can see everything. Name, place number, status, special service, special food. However, we can also adjust the settings. For example, Mr. Smith in first grade wears XL pajamas and does not drink alcohol. So I know what size clothes and what drinks to offer him. We also have information from medical services. If you had any violations, medical medication or you had abstained from alcohol on the previous flight, I will see it,” – said the employee.
According to her, tourists should not be afraid of such awareness of flight attendants. “It’s not to treat you differently, it’s to let us know … if you have a migraine or you drink too much alcohol, we can try to reduce the risk of a recurrence,” she added.
But that’s not all. We also have common remarks about things: the passenger in chair 33C is a nervous tourist, 12K travels with sympathy, 1A is a doctor who previously offered help, and the name 20E is pronounced as “Al-Ker-Wicks”. And so on,” said the pine leader.
However, such detailed information is not necessarily the norm, as other airlines mostly provide electronic devices for selling things to passengers, and keep operating manuals.
Here is a quote from another flight attendant on the subject: “I see your name, destination, connecting flight, pre-booked food, elite status if you are traveling with a fellow traveler, any special service requests, have you had any problems with flight or luggage for a while and that’s it. Nothing personal. In addition, I can make any of my transactions on the goods I sell on board. This remains for customer service and booking agents. What I see is much more specialized information about my responsibilities and flight operations, communicating with other staff, and more. This prevents me from carrying a 1,000-page guide.”
Because some flight attendants have so much personal information about their passengers, it is clear that frequent flyers may see this as a cause for concern. However, another flight attendant explained that privacy was taken very seriously: “Be sure that airlines and their flight attendants take privacy seriously, and everyone knows the consequences of using passenger information for any illegal use.”
