For the ferry in Greece, tourists will have to pay more due to higher oil prices

The cost of ferry travel in Greece will increase by 10-12 percent, announced the operators of inter-island routes. Reason? A sharp rise in fuel prices, which is one of the consequences of Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Not only ticket prices will rise due to rising oil prices. According to Greek ferry operators, they will also have to pay for transportation more than before, an average of 10-12 percent, according to the portal of the travel industry Greek Travel Pages. Most companies have either already raised prices, or will do so on April 1.

Ferry companies react differently to the situation. Some intend to reduce the speed of ships, others – to combine routes, reduce the frequency of flights or even abandon the operation of some routes. Proposals for such solutions were made during a meeting of the Greek Association of Passenger Ship Owners (SEEN) with the Minister of Shipping, Yannis Plakiotakis, who promised to explore possible solutions.

For example, a flight from Athens (Piraeus) to Paros costs 42.5 euros – previously 38.5 euros, a ticket to Mykonos costs 44 euros, 4 euros more, and Patmos 47.5 euros, 4.5 euros more expensive.

The increase in prices applies to both passenger and passenger cars. Here, the increase will also be about 10 percent.

To mitigate the effects of rising fuel costs, Greek shipping companies have called on the government to introduce, among other things, a limit on the price of marine fuel, implement liquidity measures, cover employers’ social security contributions and reduce VAT on ferry tickets from 12 to 6 percent.
