According to the Egypt Independent newspaper, entrance tickets to popular attractions in Egypt can now only be bought cashless.
This decision was made by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities of Egypt. The rule applies to both individual and organized tourists.
At the moment, cash is no longer accepted at the entrance to the pyramids of Giza, the citadel of Salah ad-Din al-Ayyubi, Abu Simbel in Aswan, the Egyptian and Nubian museums, as well as some other attractions.
Tourists can now pay for tickets with bank cards at the box office or vending machines, as well as online.
