According to the Al Jazeera TV channel, Saudi Arabian residents rushed from all over the country to the north of the kingdom to see an unusual natural phenomenon – the so-called wild lavender blooming in the sands.
The lush flowering of this plant began after heavy winter rains in the north of Saudi Arabia. Near the border with Iraq, the dunes were covered with purple flowers. Flowering will last two to three weeks.
As Saudi businessman Nasser al-Karani told reporters, he traveled 770 km from Riyadh to see the blooming desert and enjoy the pleasant smell of wild lavender. Another tourist, a citizen of Qatar, Abderrahman al-Marri, said that he spent 12 hours behind the wheel to “find himself like in paradise” – in a blooming desert.
Recall that this winter in Saudi Arabia there were heavy rains that caused floods in several areas west of the kingdom, reviving the desert in the north.
