Cyprus is ready to close to Russian tourists, though on one condition – to be able to maneuver in the event of Turkish action, or rather – if Turkey takes such a step. The statement was made by the Cypriot government’s press and information bureau.
“The Republic agrees to close the airspace to Russian aircraft while retaining the right to reconsider and review the implementation of this decision, depending on Turkey’s actions,” said Cypriot Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulidis. The fact is that unrecognized Northern Cyprus will clearly not mind taking advantage of this situation – and will be ready to receive Russian tourists – if, of course, it is not closed with Turkey, because the Turkish part of the island is ready to fly only Turkish carriers. And after the closure of Southern Cyprus, Russian planes will probably fly there.
Cyprus also insists on the possibility of maneuver “if Turkey refuses to close its airspace and starts using this European solution as a tool to attract and / or transport Russian citizens to the occupied territories of Northern Cyprus.” It will be recalled that the sky over the European Union, as well as over Canada and the United States is now closed to Russian tourists, which has “canceled” transatlantic long-distance resorts.
