The powerful cyclone Belal hit Mauritius. A curfew has been introduced on the island, reports Le Mauricien.
According to the portal, eight-meter waves flooded the embankment of the capital of Mauritius, Port Louis. Cars and buildings were also underwater.

Heavy rain and winds gusting up to 200 kilometers per hour cut off hundreds of tourists from the outside world. The international airport has suspended its operations.
Authorities in Mauritius have announced a curfew that will run from 20:00 on Monday to 12:00 on Tuesday local time.

Violators of the curfew face a fine of up to 100 thousand Mauritian rupees (2.3 thousand dollars) or imprisonment for up to two years. Only emergency and essential services personnel are allowed to move on the streets.
According to Maurice Info, the director of the National Meteorological Service has resigned following the natural disaster that hit the island.
