A tragedy occurred on board a cruise ship heading to the shores of the Bahamas. The body of a 27-year-old Florida woman was found in one of the cabins.
According to the Independent, police detained a 32-year-old man, also from Florida, and seized a suspicious substance believed to be cocaine from the cabin.
The event took place on the Margaritaville at Sea. The woman was found without signs of life, and despite attempts at resuscitation by medical personnel, she could not be saved. An investigation is currently underway on the island of Grand Bahama, and an examination is being carried out to determine the exact cause of death.
The cruise line said it immediately notified all relevant authorities, including the FBI, after discovering the death on board. The ship, which left Palm Beach last Sunday, returned Tuesday and the FBI was given full access to the ship to conduct its investigation.
The incident comes amid growing safety concerns in the Bahamas, where 18 murders were reported in the first month of 2024 alone. The US Embassy called for increased vigilance, especially in the eastern part of New Providence Island. In response, the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism stated its commitment to ensuring the country’s safety for tourists, emphasizing that the incidents described in the embassy’s warning do not reflect the general situation in the country.
